Franz Termite Control

Fumigation Alternatives

Fumigation is not always the best treatment option for a drywood termite infestation. It’s also not a viable treatment option for subterranean termites. Fumigation is a whole-house treatment designed to eradicate drywood termite infestations from all areas of a home, including hidden and hard-to-reach areas. Franz Termite Control offers fumigation alternatives better suited for specialized treatments for areas with only one or two areas of infestation. There are other options also available which we’ll cover but do not recommend nor provide.

Let our experienced staff explain the different treatment options and what’s best for your home. We use proven, effective processes that will eradicate or control termite infestations, but we also understand the concerns some homeowners may have about fumigation.

If you think you have termites, please contact us for a termite inspection.
We take the bite out of termites. Guaranteed.

There are 2 primary fumigation alternatives to eliminating drywood termites – localized, spot treatments and heat treatments. Heat treatments are not commonly performed and not recommended. We offer both fumigation and limited localized injection treatment.

Localized Spot Treatment

If your house has only one or two areas of visible infestation that are accessible for treatment then local treatment may be appropriate – but not guaranteed. If there are multiple areas where infestation has been noted or infestation is located in areas where access for local treatment is difficult or impossible, then fumigation should be considered. With localized spot treatment, the treated areas will be protected against drywood termite infestations, guaranteed, for 1 year.

Heat Treatment

Heat treatments are an aggressive form of whole-house treatment, where heat is used to kill drywood termites directly without the use of chemicals. However, this is considered a risk-filled treatment. Heat could cause extensive damage or create heat sinks throughout a structure. It’s also difficult to do and just as intrusive as fumigation. Heat treatments for termites are not commonly provided, nor recommended.

Below is a comparison chart of the fumigation alternatives for drywood termite treatments:

Termite Fumigation vs. Spot Treatments vs. Heat Treatments Comparison

Treatment
Method
Whole House
Fumigation / Tenting
Localized
Spot Treatment

(including Orange Oil & Liquid Treatments)

Heat
Treatments
EXTERMINATION EFFECTIVENESS
Guaranteed to eradicate all drywood termites, even hidden colonies and inaccessible spaces.
Will only treat visible colonies and accessible spaces.
Not guaranteed to kill all termites (in most cases, even unlikely to kill entire colonies).
TREATMENT EFFECTIVENESS
Single treatment - guaranteed 100% elimination of all termites in the tented structure.
Multiple spot treatments may be required if/when additional colonies are discovered. Hidden/inaccessible spaces cannot be treated.
Thick wood frames, drywall, and insulation may not heat up to critical temperatures to eliminate all termites. Permeation through concrete from the heat source is also challenging.
DRILLING / DAMAGE TO HOME
No drilling necessary nor damage done to home
Requires drilling to administer the treatment
No drilling necessary nor damage done to home
HOME PREPARATION / INCONVENIENCE
Residents must prepare the home and vacate for 2 - 3 days.
Pending inspection, vacating the home may not be necessary but is required in some cases while the chemical dries.
Residents must prepare heat-sensitive items and may need to vacate for 1 day.
TREATMENT COST
Cost is higher than spot treatments, in addition to living arrangement costs.
Lowest cost, but may be costly if multiple visits are required.
Cost is similar to fumigation services, but may be less due to the length residents must vacate home.
WARRANTY
With Franz Termite Control, a 3 year warranty is included.

Soil Treatments for Subterranean Termites

Fumigation will not be an effective strategy against subterranean termites.

Subterranean termites create complex tunneling systems underground, making fumigation ineffective. We offer soil injection treatments for subterranean termites, wherein Termidor is injected into strategically chosen spots in the soil and foundation around your home. The Termidor will act as both a treatment method and a deterrent against future infestations – guaranteed for 3 years.

Each person was professional, timely and educated me. They were very careful about my light carpet without my asking. They even thanked me several times for leaving the evidence where and as I'd found it so that they knew where to start with their inspection and treatment. I will definitely call them again for any future termite problems in any residence I have.
